Blog post 12/14

For the past three days I have been attempting to correct the broken terra cotta pieces. Since they were already fired no sandpaper or anything i could find would take any material off. My teacher told me to try using the concrete flooring to flatten them out and that was the only thing that'd work. On the third day of attempting to do this I was getting very close and then a whole broke through the bottom of my cup. So three days of caveman work failed me. Time to start from scratch.

My first cup made came out of he kiln perfectly. Sadly the other two pieces I put into the kiln didn't make it. Both feet on the pieces seemed to have air bubbles or some sort of tear and they broke off during firing. I attempted to salvage the taller cup and am yet to work on the broken bowl. I hope I can salvage them or at least make a copy. The shape was beautiful and I' really like to have multiple of them.

I have completed two cups and a bowl out of terra cotta now and am ready to glaze and fire them. I will first do the smaller pieces then the larger ones. I'm hoping that I wedged everything perfectly and that they'll come out of the kiln perfect.

I've continued working with terra cotta and have challenged myself to make a full set of functional bowls and cups. I'm yet to attempt to make a plate as i am worried i wont have the skill to accomplish it. I hope to gain more knowledge and experience through this adventure though, It sure is fun.
